Kenneth Waltz was 88 years old. His two classics, Man, the State and War, and, Theory of International Politics, even as a Marxist, had a great impact on my thinking. In 1959 Waltz wrote in *Man, the State, and War* about three "images" of politics: the individual, the state, the international system. Using constructivist (or critical) theories of the causes of war, write a critique of ANY one chapter of Kenneth Waltz's Man, the State, and War. One might think its strange to do a book review on a work published over 40 years ago, but too bad, I just finished Kenneth Waltz's 'Man, the State, and War' two days ago, so deal with it! Waltz is best known for his books Man, the State, and War (1959) and Theory of International Politics (1979). Similarly, Kenneth Waltz taught political theory and his PhD (which became the book, Man the State and War) focused on the rich teachings of the greatest political philosophers. I wish his family peace during their time of grieving. The levels-of-analysis issue is a fairly large one in IR and comparative politics. Can realist thought on the causes of war stand against the constructivist assault ?
